The App Fair Project Privacy Policy
This policy covers the App Fair websites, catalog and marketplace services, including information supplied by developers. The marketplace operator is APP FAIR, 2 rue Nouvelle de Wailly, 63000 Clermont-Ferrand, France. Other project organizations are listed in the imprint.
Information and purposes
We use information you provide in correspondence, submissions, reports or donations to handle those requests, operate the service and meet legal obligations. This may include contact details, submission records, supporting evidence and donation records. Please do not send unnecessary personal or sensitive information.
Hosting and delivery providers may process IP addresses, browser or device information, request URLs and timestamps to deliver and secure the service. We do not use advertising trackers or sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
We use GoatCounter to measure visits to appfair.org. It collects page views, referring sites and information about browsers, operating systems, languages, screen sizes and approximate locations. It does not use cookies. GoatCounter temporarily processes IP addresses to distinguish visitors and determine approximate locations. See GoatCounter’s privacy policy for details. These website statistics are separate from the analytics prohibited in apps distributed through the App Fair.
The website stores preferences and developer-guide entries in your browser. You can clear them through your browser settings. The guide sends a proposed app token to GitHub when checking its availability. External services, including GitHub, app stores and donation providers, process requests under their own privacy policies.
Developers
Developer submissions may include names, contact details, source repositories, app packages and listing information. Public submissions and app listings are public; private correspondence is not published as a matter of course. Packages and related information may be provided to distribution platforms and security review services where needed for distribution or review.
Developers must provide an accessible privacy policy for each app, including apps that collect no personal data. The listing must link to it and accurately explain the app’s collection, use and sharing of data, permissions, retention and available controls. Developers must keep this information current and follow applicable privacy and child-protection laws. Consent does not permit the analytics, tracking or telemetry prohibited by the app rules.
Sharing, retention and protection
Information may be handled by service providers supporting hosting, communications, payments or review, or disclosed where necessary to address a report, protect rights or comply with law. We limit disclosure to what the purpose requires. Providers may operate in other countries; applicable transfer safeguards must be observed.
We retain information for as long as reasonably needed for these purposes, including legal recordkeeping and resolving disputes, and use appropriate access restrictions and security measures. Public repositories and third-party records may remain available under their own policies.
Your choices and rights
Contact privacy@appfair.net to ask about your information or exercise applicable rights, including access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction or objection. We may need information to verify a request. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it; other processing may be necessary to provide a requested service, meet legal obligations or pursue legitimate operational and security interests. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority, including the CNIL in France.
Use device permissions and an app’s own controls to manage its access to data. Questions about another developer’s services may need to be directed to that developer. Material policy changes will be reflected on this page.
