Terms of Distribution for Developers

These terms govern submissions to and distribution through the App Fair marketplace, operated by APP FAIR, France. Participation is open to developers who meet the published inclusion criteria, applied without discrimination. Distribution is non-exclusive.

1. Content Guidelines

Your app must comply with all applicable laws and regulations in the jurisdictions where it is available. This includes, but is not limited to, privacy laws, intellectual property laws, and export control laws.

1.2 App Content

Apps, updates and listings must comply with the Trust & Safety Policy, including its prohibitions on malware, harmful apps, fraud, illegal or exploitative content and deceptive or disruptive behavior. The App Fair may reject, restrict or remove submissions that violate its policies.

1.3 User Privacy

Apps must respect user privacy, request only necessary permissions and comply with applicable privacy and child-protection laws. Every listing must link to a clear, accessible privacy policy, including where no personal data is collected. Follow the privacy information requirements and keep disclosures current. The Privacy Policy also covers information developers provide to the App Fair.

1.4 Intellectual Property

Your app must not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others. You must have authority to submit it and the rights needed to distribute its code, content and assets. Submissions are subject to intellectual property review.

2. Business Model Guidelines

2.1 Free and Open Source

Apps must meet the developer inclusion criteria. The app and all dependent software, including transitive dependencies, must have publicly available source under licenses that meet the Debian Free Software Guidelines (DFSG), with terms compatible with distribution under the app’s chosen license. Binary dependencies, such as Maven JARs, are permitted only when their released binaries can provably be reproduced by building the available source. Submit the source revisions, build instructions and verification evidence for review. Closed-source components are prohibited.

2.2 Monetization

The App Fair Project is a non-commercial endeavor. Apps are developed and maintained for the common good, not for profit or commercial gain. Developers may not monetize their apps through payment, in-app purchases, subscriptions, or donations.

2.3 Advertisements

Apps must not contain advertisements, advertising SDKs, analytics, tracking or telemetry. Consent does not create an exception to these prohibitions. See the app rules.

3. App Submission and Review

3.1 Submission Process

Follow Getting started and the inclusion criteria, including the required App Fair Publisher installation and published project website. Provide the following information:

  • App name
  • App description
  • Link to the app’s source code repository
  • Link to the app’s privacy policy
  • Contact information for the developer

3.2 Review Process

The App Fair reviews submissions against these terms and may request supporting information or corrections. Review and enforcement follow the Trust & Safety Policy; acceptance is not a guarantee of security or continuing availability.

3.3 Updates and Maintenance

Developers are responsible for maintaining their apps and listings, addressing major security vulnerabilities and cooperating with policy reviews and lawful removal requests. The App Fair may withhold or remove affected releases. Developers may request reconsideration through support.

4. Acceptance of Terms

By submitting an app or update for distribution, you accept these terms and give APP FAIR written, non-exclusive authorization to review, build, sign, host and distribute the submitted app, updates and listing materials under their applicable licenses, including through distribution and security-review providers. You confirm that you are authorized to give this permission and will supply evidence of rights on request. This authorization does not transfer ownership or alter open-source licenses. The submission and its acceptance record the agreement between you and APP FAIR.

Questions or requests to end future distribution may be sent to support@appfair.net. Existing recipients retain their license rights. Revised terms will be published here; future submissions are subject to the terms then in effect, without limiting applicable legal rights.
